I found these pictures of a Conquest TSI from an estate sale going on this weekend. I know NOTHING about these, but figured I’d toss it out there. What do you think it’s worth as it is? It looks like its been sitting for some time. Go look at it or run away?

I’ve seen a few for sale, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one listed over 3k. I’ve always loved the look of them. Never heard anything of reliability or ease of repair, but knowing typical 80's turbo tech my inclination would be that it’s kind of a pain to keep running.

People who run estate sales typically don’t know what they’re selling. Offer $800.

My Dad had one. It was basically a turboed version of the 2.6L motor in the Mighty Max pickup. The original turbo wasn’t wastegated and had overboosting issues...my Dad blew two turbos before finally cracking the block and losing compression in cylinders 2 and 3. While it looks like this car doesn’t have the original turbo, the fact remains that the original engine wasn’t really strong enough to be turboed...one big reason why these all died while you can still find Supras and Z-cars of the same vintage.

If you want a project car, a 4G63 swap isn’t a bad idea at all...that was the engine that came in the JDM Starion and we all know how it worked in the Eclipse and Evo. Just don’t assume the car is in running order, and assume it’s someone else’s crappy project.

That’s one nice car.

that’s inaccurate. the G54B is a stout block that is more than capable of taking boost. the weak link is the throttle body fuel injection, which causes two of the cylinders to run rich while the other two run lean.

I mean, whether it’s the top end or the bottom end, the engine as it stands is better thrown out. By the time you’re done swapping the turbo and a new intake manifold, you’re better off just putting a 4G63 in there.

You’d be buying someone else’s heavily modified, undocumented project car. What state is everything in? Only way to know is to go through everything.

Now, if that doesn’t scare you, then the bright side is the previous owner appears to have dumped a lot of cash into aftermarket parts.
